Privacy Policy

This policy explains how MJMX Holdings, LLC (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use the BetterDL course website (the “Service”). If you have questions, email betterdl@proton.me.

What we collect

If you use the free topics without an account

• Product analytics. Events such as pages and lessons viewed, practice exams started and completed, and search queries. These are tied to a random, anonymous id stored in a first-party cookie and your browser's local storage. This id doesn't contain your name or email.
• Things you choose to send us. Problem reports on questions, lesson ratings, and survey responses.
• Practice exam attempts and scores, so we can show your review and improve the questions.

If you create an account

• Account details from Firebase Authentication: your email address, display name, the sign-in method you used (email and password, Google, or GitHub), and a unique user id. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive your basic profile (name and email) from them. We never see your Google or GitHub password. If you use email and password, your password is handled by Firebase Authentication and we never see it.
• Analytics and activity as described above, now also linked to your account.

If you buy the course

• Purchase details from Lemon Squeezy: your order id, email, name, amount paid, country, and order status (for example, paid or refunded). We store your access status and order id on your account.
• We never receive your card or bank details. Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record and handles payment, sales tax and VAT, invoices, and receipts.
• If you redeem an access code, we record that the code was used on your account.

Stored only in your browser

Your lesson progress and your light or dark theme choice are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Cookies and similar technologies

• Sign-in session cookie. An httpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. Needed for accounts to work.
• Anonymous analytics id. A random id in a first-party cookie (and local storage) so we can understand how the course is used, as described above.
• Lemon Squeezy affiliate tracking. If you arrive through a referral link, Lemon Squeezy's affiliate script sets a tracking identifier so the referrer can be credited if you buy.
• Local storage for lesson progress and theme, as described above.

Vercel Web Analytics doesn't use cookies. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers.

How we use your information

• To provide the course: sign you in, unlock the full course after purchase, and show your practice exam results.
• To handle purchases, refunds, access codes, and referrals.
• To fix mistakes in questions and improve lessons, using your problem reports, ratings, survey answers, and usage data.
• To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse, such as account sharing or referral fraud.
• To reply when you contact us, and to send essential messages about your account or purchase.
• To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records of sales.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the Service. They process data on our behalf, or under their own terms where noted:

• Google (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores account, purchase, and usage data on servers in the United States.
• Vercel hosts the website and runs Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and visitors without cookies and without identifying you (it doesn't store IP addresses or follow you across sites).
• Lemon Squeezy runs checkout, payments, tax, refunds, and the affiliate program. As Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy is the seller of your order, and its own terms and privacy policy apply to checkout and to affiliates.
• Google or GitHub, if you choose to sign in with them. Their own privacy policies apply to your accounts with them.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or merger of the business (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).

Legal bases and consent

We are a US-based business. We process your information to provide the Service you asked for, to complete your purchase, for our legitimate interest in running and improving a useful course, to comply with the law, and, where required, with your consent.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email betterdl@proton.me.

Your choices and rights

• Access, correction, and deletion. Email betterdl@proton.me and we'll send you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it.
• Delete your account. Email betterdl@proton.me from your account's email address. Deleting your account removes access to the course, including anything you paid for.
• Browser data. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time. This resets your anonymous analytics id and your saved lesson progress.

Depending on where you live (for example, some US states), you may have similar rights by law. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

How long we keep it

We keep account, purchase, and activity data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it longer, for example records of sales needed for tax and accounting. Lemon Squeezy keeps its own order records under its own policies. Anonymous analytics that can't be linked back to you may be kept to help us improve the course.

Security

We use established providers (Google Firebase, Vercel and Lemon Squeezy), encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access controls to protect your data. Card details never reach our systems. No online service can be perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep your sign-in details to yourself.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and store data in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.

Children

The Service is meant for college students and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email betterdl@proton.me and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll make it clear on the site or email account holders before it takes effect.
